Overall Aim

We are housing association and charity dedicated to improving lives by providing social housing and gender sensitive support services to women in London. Our Supported Housing team aims to improve the lives of women who have experienced gender based violence including domestic abuse and trafficking as well as mothers leaving prison.

We are looking for a part time summer intern to carry out important research to continue improving our services. You will be an active member of our Supported Housing team but work very closely with our Research and Communications officer too.

This role would suit someone with a strong interest in social policy, gender studies, sociology or related fields who wants to gain experience in the Third Sector Arena.


Key Responsibilities

  • To carry out our 2018 Service Users survey and compiling results through survey monkey
  • To assist the team in preparing and organising meetings and events for service users (and if possible attending to such events)
  • To analyse and interpret data and information obtained, making sure that key issues are identified and produce an interim report
  • To contribute writing internal and external publications as well as producing Social Media material
  • To act in accordance with the aims of Housing for Women
  • To promote and implement Housing for Women’s Equal Opportunities Policy and other polices adopted by the Board.



We are looking for someone able to commit 2-4 days per week for 4 to 8 weeks (July/August). We can be flexible with the days.

Our core hours are Monday to Friday 9.30-4.30pm.

Closing date: 12:00pm, Friday 8th June 2018

Interview Date: To be confirmed, but most likely to be on the week starting on 18th June 2018

Additional Information

This role offers the Intern the opportunity to take on more responsibilities and develop and gain new skills.

We reimburse genuine out of pocket travel expenses to and from the place of work and up to £4 for lunch expenses.

Housing for Women will request 2 references and if relevant to the role will conduct a full DBS Check.


Role Experience, Knowledge and Skills Profile


Experience & qualifications:

  • Computer literate and confident user of Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Experience using Survey Monkey            
  • Studies in a relevant subject area such as Social Research, Politics, Social Policy, Business, Gender studies, etc. (desirable)
  • Experience writing for blogs, websites, news platforms and social media platforms such as LinkedIn, Twitter, etc. (ideally but not necessarily on behalf of a charitable organisation)
