We offer a variety of roles throughout the year. Volunteers can help in the office, at events, supporting service users face to face or carrying out valuable research among other tasks. We offer long term, short term and one-off opportunities depending on volunteers' needs and the requirements of the roles.
Head office roles
Volunteers based in the office support our operations such as Finance, IT, Property Services, Housing and Income Services, Human Resources, Fundraising and Customer Services.
These roles are open to both female and male volunteers and you would be expected to commit 1 or 2 days a week for a minimum of 3 months.
Volunteers based in our Domestic Violence Refuges work alongside our specialist support workers to provide vital emotional and practical support to women and children who have experienced domestic abuse. All refuge-based volunteers will receive comprehensive hands-on training before working with service users on their own.
Due to the nature of the work, these types of roles are only offered to female volunteers and we will conduct a full DBS Check. You would be expected to commit to volunteer for a minimum of 6 months.
Our Mentors work with women leaving prison and victims of trafficking to help them gain the key life skills and confidence needed to lead independent lives. Mentors undergo a mandatory two days of comprehensive training before they are matched with their mentees. We only recruit mentors twice a year.
Due to the nature of the work, this role is only offered to female volunteers and we will conduct a full DBS Check. You would be expected to commit to a minimum of 6 months.
We work in partnership with Colleges and Universities to offer formal student placements. Get in touch if you would like to do your placement with Housing for Women and we will contact your University or College placements’ Coordinator.
Placements for roles involving direct support to service users and/or their children will be offered to female candidates only due to the nature of the work.
Depending on the nature of the placement we might conduct a full DBS Check.
From time to time, we need the help of volunteers with certain skills and expertise for a specific project or event. This includes for example taking photos or organising a trip for older tenants.
