Domestic violence damages and disrupts the lives of thousands of women and their children. We provide immediate support and refuge for six women and their children in one of our west London houses, backed up by access to permanent homes.
In May 1999 Housing for Women opened its first domestic violence refuge which houses up to six women and their children. The refuge provides counselling and general benefits advice. In the refuge we are able to offer emotional and practical support so that the victims of violence can start to rebuild their lives. When a client is ready to move on Housing for Women assist their resettlement and as often as we can we move tenants on into our own general stock.
Our resettlement and outreach support service provides free, confidential, one to one support and advice for women and children living in violent situations who may not want to leave their family home.
We also work closely with a range of London-wide Women's Aid agencies, providing nominations and other support services, such as property development and maintenance.
In summer 2008, a new hostel is opening with more capacity. The old hostel will be refurbished.
