Supporting Children’s Mental Health Week

Supporting Children’s Mental Health Week

Published 03 February 2025

Today marks the start of Children’s Mental Health Week 2025. This year’s theme - Know Yourself, Grow Yourself - focuses on nurturing personal growth.

For the children and families in our domestic abuse shelters, mental health is a top priority. Experiencing abuse may leave deep emotional scars. At Housing for Women, we work to re-build self-esteem, and provide a safe, supportive environment.

Good mental health is crucial for children to thrive. It impacts their ability to form relationships, learn, and face life’s challenges. This week reminds us of the importance of helping children express their feelings, develop coping skills, and recognise their strengths.

In our refuges, we offer access to support for children. This includes access to counselling, creative activities, and therapeutic play. We also work closely with families to ensure children have a supportive stable environment where they can heal and grow.

Zaiba Qureshi, CEO for Housing for Women, said: "We see every day how vital mental health support is for children who have experienced domestic abuse. This year’s theme perfectly reflects the journey of every child we support."
