Women’s History Month
Women’s History Month starts tomorrow. Every March, this campaign highlights the remarkable contributions women have made to society and history.
This year, Housing for Women is proud to celebrate 90 years of empowering women and providing vital support. Since 1934, inspired by the vision of the suffragist movement, we have worked to create safe, secure housing for women in need, addressing inequalities that persist in society.
Our organisation began by helping single, working women in London who faced discrimination and barriers when trying to find housing. At a time when opportunities for women were scarce, we offered more than just a place to live. We gave women the chance to build independent and fulfilling lives. This commitment to gender equality and opportunity has driven our work for nine decades.
As society has evolved, so too have the challenges women face. Housing for Women has adapted to meet these needs. Today, we provide specialist support services for women escaping domestic abuse, survivors of human trafficking, and those leaving prison. From our roots in the suffragist movement to our current work, our mission has remained the same: to empower women, challenge inequality, and deliver affordable homes that women can feel proud of.
Our history is a powerful reminder of the resilience and determination of women fighting for change. This Women’s History Month, we honour the achievements of those who paved the way and reaffirm our commitment to tackling the inequalities women still face.
